Column Installation in theSRI Model 8610 and
Model 310GasChromatographs
equippedwith the split/splitless injector
On theModel 8610CGC, theneedle
valve, restrictor and “tee” fitting are
mounted in the valveoven to the left of
the column oven. The needle valve is
temperature controlled toavoid solvent
condensation.
Theneedle valve in theModel 310GC is
mounted in theGC chassis but is not
temperature controlled.
As shown in the schematicdiagrambe-
low, the injector vent linegoes toa “tee”
fittingwhere it splits intoa restrictor tube
which limits the flow toa fewmilliliters
perminuteand toaPeakSimple con-
trolled solenoid valvewhich turns the
main split flowonandoff. Themain split
flow is controlledby aneedle valve.
The flow through the restrictor ensures
that high boilingmolecules from previous
injections cannot diffuseback into the
injector body.
