Bend the columngently so it lines up
with thedetector bulkhead fitting. Attach
a stainless swagelok nut andbrass fer-
rule set to theendof the column. It’s a
good idea to
first tighten
the nut and
ferrule intoa
standard
swagelok fit-
ting so the
ferrule ispo-
sitioned at a
standarddepth from theendof the col-
umn tubing.
Then tighten theendof the column into
the detector bulkhead fitting using a
7/32” wrench. The detector shown in the
photo isanFIDdetectormounted inde-
tector location#2along the right hand
sideof the columnoven. Other available
detectorsmay appear slightly different or
bemounted inpositions#1, #3or #4
along the right hand sideof the column
ovenbut all detectorswill have1/8”
swagelok connectors toattach the col-
umn to.
Some packed columnsmay bemade of
glass ormay bepackedwith fragile
packingmaterial and it is not possible to
bend the column. In this case, attach
someempty tubing to theendof the col-
umnandbend theempty tubing to con-
nect to thedetector. 1/16” stainless tub-
ing is ideal for this. Use a hard graphite
reducing ferrule to connect the1/16” tub-
ing to the1/8” detector bulkhead.
