C. This temperature isset at the factory,
andshouldnotnormallyrequireuseradjustment.
Onceyou turn theMethanizerON, let itwarmup
for at least two minutes before verifying the
temperaturesetpoint.When thecolumneffluent
mixeswiththehydrogencarrierorFIDsupplyand
passes through theMethanizer,COandCO
2
are
converted tomethane. Since theconversionof
COandCO
2
tomethaneoccursafter thesample
compoundshavepassedthroughthecolumn,their
retentiontimesareunchanged. Hydrocarbonspass
throughtheMethanizerunaffected.
TheMethanizeraccessoryenablesanyGCequipped
withaFlameIonizationDetector todetect low levels
of CO and CO
2
. It comes complete with its own
temperaturecontrolboxanduniversalpowersupply,
whichcanoperateonanyofthevariousvoltagesaround
theworld(100-240V).Equippedwithswagelok type
fittings, theMethanizercanbeconnectedanywhere
between thecolumnand theFIDdetector.
Like the FID detector, the Methanizer requires
hydrogen for operation. The required flow rate of
hydrogenthroughtheMethanizeris25mLs/minute. This
canbeacombinationofcarrierandmake-upgases.
Connectyourhydrogensupply to the1/16”make-up
lineon the1/8”bulkheadfitting.Thebulkheadfitting
mayalsobeused tomount theMethanizer bodyon
yourinstrument.
