2. ForFID#1, set theamplifiergain switch toMEDIUM. ForFID#2, set thegain
switch toLOW.
4. IgniteeachFIDbyholdingup the ignitorswitchforacoupleof
secondsuntilyouhearasmallPOP.Theignitorswitchesarelocated
on thefrontpanelof theGC.Verify that theflame is litbyholding
theshinysideofchromedwrenchdirectly infrontof thecollector
outlet/FIDexhaustvent. Ifcondensationbecomesvisibleon the
wrenchsurface, theflameislit.Topreventflameout,settheignitor
voltageto-750byadjustingthetrimpotonthe“FLAMEIGNITE”
zonewith thesuppliedscrewdriver.
3. Set theFIDhydrogen flow to25mL/minute, and the
FIDairsupply flow to250mL/minute.Theapproximate
pressuresrequired toachieve theseflowratesareprinted
on theright-handsideofyourMud-loggerGC.
1. Set thevalveoven temperature to90
o
C.
5. Connectzerogas to thesample inletat10psi. (Zerogashasnohydrocarbons).
Zero theFID#2signalbyclickingon theAutoZerobuttonon the left sideof the
channel2chromatogramwindow.
6. Disconnect thezerogas,andconnectcalibrationgasstandard(typically100%methane) to thesample inlet
at10psi.TheFIDsignalshouldincreaseapproximately300millivoltswhilerunning100%methane.
