CuttingTubing for SRI GCs
Whenusing theClean-cut TubingCutter
release the cuttingblade so that it pops
up and place the tubing through the
smallest size hole it will fit into. Press
down quickly and firmly on the cutting
blade to cut the teflon tubing. This cut-
tingmethod is preferred because it will
make a clean cut perpendicular to the
tubing. Aperfectly perpendicular cut is
important so that the tube fitsas tightly
as possible into the bottomof the fitting,
thusminimizing the “dead volume”
whichmay cause peak shapes to be
asymmetrical ( tailing ).
You can also usea razor blade. Simply
lay the tubing ontoa flat surfaceand
place the razor blade straight up and
down onto the tubing. Pressdown to cut
the teflon tubing. Inspect the cut end of
the tubing to ensure a clean cut and that
the tubinghole is not blocked. Its hard to
get a perfectly square cut with the razor
blade.
