Calibrating theSRIMudloggerGC
Total GasFIDusingPeakSimple version3.99or later
TheSRI Mudlogger GC configuration
typically includes aTotalGASFID detec-
tor which continuouslymeasures the to-
tal hydrocarbon concentration inwhat-
ever gas is presented to theGC’s inlet.
The inlet pressuremust be held constant
at some pressure like 10psi, but any
pressure between 1 and 50 psi isOK so
long as the pressure is held constant by
apressure regulator.
TheTotalGas reading can be displayed
by thePeakSimple data system as ei-
ther amillivolt level strip chart or as a
large number in themiddle of the screen
as shown at right.
To display the number instead of the
stripchart, navigate to theDetailsBox.
Click theDataloggermodeON.
Themillivolt signal from theTotalGas
FID can bemultiplied bywhatever num-
ber is inserted in the “Gain” box. This
Is useful if youwant to display theTotal-
Gas in “Units” or “percent”.
TheTotalGas FIDmillivolt signal is not
perfectly linear however. This can be
corrected and compensated by using a
calibration curve.
To calibrate theTotalGas signal click the
“Use calibration from component” box
with the number 1. This calibration
curve linearizes themillivolt signal which
is displayed in numbers on the screen
To output a linearizedmillivolt analog
signal click the analog output channel
desired.
