The carrier gas is connected to the
Thermal Soil Desorber bya1/16”
stainless steel tube. Connect this tube
to theoutlet of the injector port. The
GC shown in thephotohas aheated
injector, but other SRIGCsmayhave
theon-column injector which looks
slightlydifferent. The1/16” tube isse-
cured to the injector usinga swagelok
nut and1/8’ to1/16” soft graphite re-
ducing ferrule.
Theanalytical column is connected to
another 1/16” stainless steel tubeus-
inga swageloknut and1/8” to .8mm
soft graphite reducing ferrule. Anycol-
umnmaybeused, but a15meter
MXT1witha1micronphase
and .53mmOD is commonlyused for
diesel rangeorganicsanalysis. Push
the column through the fittingand into
theboreof the1/16” tubing tomini-
mizedead volume.
Theother endof the column is in-
serted into theFIDdetector usinga
1/8” nut and1/8” to .8mm soft graphite
reducing ferrule. TheFID temperature
shouldbe set to300C toprevent con-
densationof highboilers if diesel
rangeorganicsarebeinganalyzed.
TheFIDdetector iscommonlyused for
thisalthoughother detectorsmaybe
useful for specificapplications.
