Thehandleof the valve is
immediately
rotated ( at the same time theanalysis
is started ) to redirect the flowof car-
rier gas through the soil. Anyhydro-
carbons in the soil ( nowheated to
275C ) arepurged into theGC’sana-
lytical columnwhere they separate
andaredetectedby theFIDdetector.
