-225Structure
Rtx®-225Columns
(fusedsilica)
(polar phase; Crossbond®50% cyanopropylmethyl/50%phenylmethyl polysiloxane)
• General purpose columns for FAMEs, carbohydrates, sterols, flavor compounds.
• Temperature range: 40 °C to240 °C.
• Equivalent toUSPG7,G19phases.
The cyanopropyl-containingRtx®-225phase is slightly lesspolar thanbondedpolyeth-
ylene glycol (PEG) phases, but it canbeused formanyof the same applications.
Improvements to theRtx®-225polymerhave increased thermal stability, reducedbleed,
and improved inertness.TheRtx®-225columnprovidesa20°C thermal stabilityadvan-
tageoverother“225”columnsbecauseof ouruniquepolymer synthesis technologyand
proprietary siloxane deactivation. Inmost similar columns, the Carbowax® deactiva-
tion layer is not fully compatible with the cyanopropyl siloxane polymer, which can
cause adsorption, tailingof active compounds, and lower efficiency.
*Maximum temperatures listed are for 15- and 30-meter lengths. Longer lengthsmay have a slightly reduced
maximum temperature.
Rtx®-1701Columns
(fusedsilica)
(midpolarityphase; Crossbond®14% cyanopropylphenyl/86%dimethyl polysiloxane)
• General purpose columns for alcohols, oxygenates, PCB congeners (e.g.Aroclor
mixes), pesticides.
• Temperature range: -20 °C to280 °C.
• Equivalent toUSPG46phase.
Rtx®-1701 is one of themore popular stationaryphases used in capillaryGC. Themix
of cyano andphenyl functional groups increases the polarity andoffers adifferent elu-
tion order relative to less polar Rtx®-1 or Rtx®-5 columns. An Rtx®-1701 column is
ideal for confirmationanalysis, incombinationwithanRtx®-35orRtx®-5column.The
polymer is fully characterized to ensure long-term reproducibility, column-to-column
consistency, and lowbleed, evenwith sensitive detectors such as ECDs andMSDs.
