3. Solvent Set-up
Thepumpheadseachhavean1/8”Teflonsolventinletline. Place
theendsoftheselinesinyoursolventbottle. Thesolventrecycle
valvehastwooutletlines. The1/16”clearlineisrecycledsolvent.
Putitintothesolventbottle,orintoitsowncontainerifyouwish
tokeep itseparatefromyourfreshsolvent. Place theendof the
1/16”greenlineintoawastebottle.Asimplifiedwaytoremember:
all theclear linesgo to thesolventbottle. Indefaultmode, the
solventrecyclingvalvesendstheeffluentoutthecleartube;when
activated, itdirects theeffluentout thegreenwaste tube.

The1/4”Tygon tubingattached to thepump
head(s)isthepistonflushline.Pistonflushing
helps keep thehighpressure seal(s) clean,
minimizingwearandtearfromcrystallizedand
abrasivebufferdeposits that leak through the
seal,andwouldotherwisedryon thepiston.
There are inlet and outlet lines for piston
flushing.Place theendsofboth intoabottle
containingatleast50%organicsolvent(usually
dilutedwithdeionizedwater).Binarygradient
pumpheadpistonflushlinesaredaisychained,
andshare thesame inandout lines.
