Butane andResidual Solvents inMedical Cannabis
Flowers andConcentrates using theSRI 8610CFIDGC
After injecting theC1—C6
standardwe see four
peaks: ethane, methane,
and propane (which all
elute together); butane;
pentane; and hexane.
Identify thepeaks so that
eachpeak is defined by a
“retentionwindow”. See
thePeakSimple tutorial de-
scribing theprocess of cre-
ating retentionwindows.
Since itmay be difficult, if
not impossible, toobtain
reference standards for all
the various residual sol-
vents in cannabis itmay be
more practical to place
blanket retentionwindows
over categories of residual
solvents. In the chromato-
gram to the right, one re-
tentionwindow covers the
organic solvents, the se-
cond coversBTEX, and the
thirdencompasses all the ter-
penes.
In this case, all thepeaks under
the retentionwindowneed tobe
quantified. In theEdit Component
screen select “Show total of all
peaks”.
