Butane andResidual Solvents inMedical Cannabis
Flowers andConcentrates using theSRI 8610CFIDGC
Set the column oven temperature
as shown at right.Althoughwe are
only interested in the early eluting
solvents andadulterants, the
“heavier” terpenemolecules are
also injectedonto the column, and
thesemust beallowed time to
come out. The light hydrocarbons
come out during the twominute
hold, BTEX between50 and130
degrees, and the terpenes after
that. The final temperatureholdat
250 ensures that the heaviestmol-
ecules are “baked-out” of the col-
umn.
Thus, it canbe convenient toper-
formbutaneand residual solvent
and
terpeneanalysis in one run.
Formore information on terpene
testing, please see the tutorial de-
scribingmedical cannabis terpene
analysis.
Set the Integrationparameters as
shown.
