The recommendedmethod for
implementinga twopositionair
actuator isamanifold solenoidvalve
assembly (MSVA),ablock-mounted
pairof 3-way solenoids thatpulses
air to theactuator to switch it from
position toposition. If air isapplied
continuously, thecontinuous
rotational forceapplied to thevalve
cancause sideloading, leaking,and
additionalwear.
Typical actuationpressure is40 to50
psig,butup to80psigmaybeused.
Ideally,onlyenoughairpressure
shouldbeused to switch thevalve in
1/3 to1/2 second. Bottled instrument
airornitrogen is recommended. If
plant air fromcompressorsmustbe
used,anoil separator andwaterdryer
are required.
Ahigh speed switchingaccessory
(HSSA) canupgradevalve switching
times to less than30mswithairor 8
mswithhelium. Aposition feedback
(PFAF)withcontact closures inboth
positions isalsoavailableasanoption.
