SerialValve Interface (SVI)
The serial valve interface (SVI) isa
device that converts commands from
acomputer,viaa serial port, into
positional control for twopositionand
selectors (multipositionvalves). Each
SVI cancontrol up to four air actuated
(viaaDVI,page199) or electrically
actuated twopositionvalvesand two
electricallyactuated selectors. The
timingprogramcanbe run in the
background, freeing thecomputer for
other applications. Two serial ports
(onemale,one female) allowup to
eight SVIs tobedaisy-chainedand run
froma single serial communication
port. Inaddition tocontrollingvalves,
theSVI canbeused tocontrol other
deviceswhich require logic level,BCD,
or single line inputs.
TheSVI isa self-containedunit,
with itsown110VAC (or 230VAC
Eurostandard)power supply. There
isnoneed toopen thecomputer to
connect theSVI,because itsDB-9 to
DB-9RS-232cableconnects toany
available serial port. It also includesan
interfacecable forValco twoposition
actuators,and twoAnsley20-wire
connectors for installationon the
interfacecablewhichcomesaspart
of themultipositionelectricactuator.
For air actuatedvalves,optional
interfacecablesareavailable for the
DVI,whichconvertselectrical signals
topneumaticpulses.
Software is suppliedonaWindows-
compatibleCD. Ifdifferentprogram
functionality isneeded, information is
given in themanualwhichwill assist in
writing thenecessary software.
