Basic Drugs (Mixed)

Manybasic compounds canbe screened for in any given analysis, using a singleRestek column. Our
bondedpolysiloxane stationaryphases exhibit low columnbleed andhigh thermal stabilitywhile
offering a varietyof compositions that yield selective retention for specific analytes. Screening and
confirmation for individual drugs canbe performed simultaneouslybyusing twodissimilar station-
aryphases in adual column configuration.
Rtx
®
-5 andRtx
®
-35phases are 5% and 35%phenyl/methyl polysiloxanes, respectively. TheRtx
®
-5 col-
umnhasbeenusedas theprimaryanalytical columnbymany laboratories andcan resolveall 38com-
pounds in thismixture of basic drugs in less than 60minutes.The higher phenyl content of theRtx
®
-
35 phase increases its polarity and retention of more polar compounds, resulting in several elution
orderandretention time shifts.Under the sameconditionsused for theRtx
®
-5column, theRtx
®
-35col-
umn also resolves all 38basic drugs, with the exceptionof pyrilamine andbupivacaine.
Rtx
®
-200 is a trifluoropropyl polysiloxane that exhibits unique selectivity for compounds with lone
pairs of electrons. This columndisplays verydifferent retention times and elutionorders in compari-
son to the Rtx
®
-5 or Rtx
®
-35 column. Under the same analytical conditions, several coelutions occur
with the Rtx
®
-200 column, including: cotinine/caffeine, bupivacaine/chlorpromazine,
bromazepam/prazepam, and flurazepam/papaverine.
Because all three columns canbeoperatedunder the same temperatureprogram conditions, simulta-
neous dual column confirmation analysis canbe accomplishedby using either anRtx
®
-35 columnor
anRtx
®
-200 column in conjunctionwithanRtx
®
-5 column.This increases qualitative andquantitative
reliabilitywithout sacrificing analysis time.
