permanentlypacked,andablank trap. Theblank trapmaybepackedwithanadsorbentof theuser’schoice
or leftblank,dependingon theanalytical situation. Follow the instructionsbelow toaccess the traps for
switchingorreplacement.
1. With theredprotectiveGCcoverraised, remove thePurge&Trapcoverplateby loosening thefourbrass
thumbscrewsat itscorners.
2. Carefullyremove the twosquaresofwhite insulationfromeachvalveovenduct toexpose thefittings that
secure the trapsends to the1/16”O.D. tubing leading to the10portvalve.
3. Gentlyslidethetrapassemblyoutoftheslotsinthevalveovenducts(thereisenoughslackintheheaterand
thermocouplewires topulleither trapabout1 inchoutside theduct).
4. Use twowrenches to loosen the1/8”Swagelok typenuts thatsecure the trapsends tostainlesssteel1/8”-
1/16”reducingunions.
5. The trapheater isaclamshelldesign,consistingof twohalves. Toremove theheaterfrom the trap, loosen
butdonotremovethetwosecuringhexheadscrews. Thetwohalvesoftheclamshellheaterwillopenenough
to let the trapdropout.
6. Attach thereplacement trap to thereducingunionswith the trap’s two1/8”nuts. Usestainlesssteelnuts
andbrass ferruleswhen replacing traps. DONOTusegraphite ferrules, asgraphitehassomeadsorption
propertiesandmay interferewithyouranalysis.
7. Slip the trap into theclamshellheaterand tighten the twohexheadscrews.
8. Gentlypush the trapendsback into theslots in the two interiorductwalls,makingsure that theblack
spacersarebetween theductwallsand the trapheater.

9. Repeat theprocesswith theother trap ifnecessary. Replace thewhiteduct insulationsquares, thenreplace
andsecure thePurge&Trapcoverplate.
