10 Position Method 5030 Purge & Trap Autosampler Retrofit
Thepurge& trapautosamplerretrofitkitcontainseverythingyouneed toadda10PositionMethod5030
Purge&TrapAutosampler toyourexistingSRIpurge& trapequippedGC. Thekit includesanewpurge&
trapcoverplate(A),a transfer line tovalveconnection(B),and apurgegas line(C).
A. Purge& trapcoverplate:
1. Remove theexistingpurge& trapcoverplate from theGCby
unscrewing thefour thumbscrews thathold it inplace.
2. Remove the fan from the existing purge & trap cover by
unscrewingthefoursecuringphilipsheadscrewsandunpluggingits
whiteplastic2-wireconnector. Transfer thefanand itsfourscrews to thenewcover.
3. Attach thenewpurge& trapcover to theGCwith the fourscrews from theoldcoverand re-connect the
fanpower.
4. Feed theautosampler’sredheat transfer line through itscoverplatehole, thensecure itwith thehoseclamp
includedwiththeautosampler.
B. Transfer line tovalveconnection:
1. Removethevalveovenlidbyunscrewingthebrassthumbscrewonthefrontedgeofthelid,
tilting the frontof the lidup, thenslidingbackslightly to free it from thescrew in theback.
Carefullyremove thewhite insulationpadding,andset itsecurelyasidewith theoven lid.
2. Connect theValcofitting toPORT#2of thegassamplingvalve(theValcofitting is labeled
“CONNECTTOPORT#2”).
3. FeedthetransferlinecompletelythroughtheSwagelokfittingand1/16”tubing(thisfitting
is labeled“INSERTX-FERLINE”).
4. Useawrench tosecurely tighten thefittinguntil it issnugagainst thegraphiteferrule;donotover-tighten.
C. Purgegas line:
1. Remove theglass test tube from thepurge& trap.
2. Connect thebrassunionon thepurgegas line to thepurgegas tube (formerly
insidetheglasstesttube). ThedurableTeflon
TM
ferruleinthebrassunionallowsthis
operation tobeperformedmany times.
3. Connect the1/8”nuton thepurgegas line to“PURGEIN”on theautosampler.
