Years agoRestek attempted to fill the gap inpolarity between
polyethylene-glycol phases andbonded siloxane-based
polymers bymixing the twophases together. The effects gave
favorable retentionof complex compoundmixtures, such as the
one presented in the chromatograms, but sufferedmany other
problems. The bleedwas high and the selectivity of these
phases changedover time since the polyethylene-glycol bled at
a higher rate than the dimethylpolysiloxane. These phases do
notmixwell, which compromised the coating efficiency of the
column. Development of a bonded siloxanewax-like phase
could solve these problems and aid in the development of a
successful solution to theOVI column.
