surface treatments improve sampling and
transfer component performance
When corrosion and surface activity are a concern, solutionsmust be engi-
neeredusing special alloys or surface treatments. SilcoTek offers a family of
surface treatments that address reactivity and corrosion concerns over awide
spectrumof applications. Table 1 lists applications inwhichSilcoTek
treatmentsminimize corrosionor prevent adsorptionof active compounds.

Adsorptionproblems in samplepathways often canbe traced to the tubing
and #ttings used to transfer the sample to the analytical instrument. Always
use treated tubing and #ttings for applications involving active compounds. For
special requirements, ensuremaximum inertness andminimal surface areaby
applyingSilcoTek treatments to electropolished tubing. Figure 1 shows uptake
and release curves for 500ppbv ofmethyl mercaptan, an active sulfur com-
pound, in a gas streampassing through a variety of tubing substrates.

SilcoNert 2000 (Siltek/Sul#nert) treated tubing reduces uptakeby orders of
magnitude, relative to untreated stainless steel tubing.

SilcoNert 2000 treated tubing allows for rapiddetection.
Applications Note
t &DPOPNJDBM
- Low cost corrosion resistance compared to
specialty alloys, moredurable than traditional stainless steels.
t 1SPEVDUJWF
- Superior analytical performance allows
characterizationof parts-per-billion level sulfurs in the #eldor lab.
t 7FSTBUJMF
- Suitable in a variety of environments and at
extreme temperature ranges.
t 4JNQMF
- Canbe applied to existing equipment.
