The images below showOmnifit loop inject valves in use as sample injectiondevices in a chromatography system. These are
themost common applications but the useof the valves is not limited to these.
Application and set up notes.
6 port loop inject valve used as a sample injector
With the valve in the loadposition the sample canbe injected into the
sample loopwhile themobilephase ispumpeddirectly through to the
column.
When the valve is switched to the inject position, thepump is thencon-
nected to the sample loop and the sample is carriedonto and through the
column. The ‘sample in’ and ‘waste’ ports are joinedbut isolated from the
loop.
It is suggested that ports areconnected to thecorresponding lines as
shown. This ensures that the flowof themobilephase is inoppositedirec-
tions during the load and inject operations.
10 port loop inject valve used as a sample injector
This valve allows alternate injection from twodifferent sample loops, either
identical or of different sizes. This applicationcan alternatively be satisfied
with a 4port switching valve and a 6port loop inject valve.
With the valve inpositionA, sample2 canbe loaded into sample loop2
while themobilephase is pumped through sample loop1 and carries
sample1onto the column. The ‘sample1 in’ and ‘waste’ ports are con-
nectedbut isolated from the loop.
When the valve is switched topositionB, thepump is connected to sample
loop2 and sample2 is carriedonto and through the column. The ‘sample2
in’ and ‘waste’ ports are connectedbut isolated from the loop.Whilst sample
2 is pumpedonto the column, sample loop1 canbe re-loaded.
