Our SingleBarbConcept
Manydesigners arenot awareof thebenefitsof usinga single
barbversus amulti-barbfitting, but thebarbdesigngreatly
affects the securityof your tube connection.
Becauseof the shapeof abarb, it is impossible to injection
moldanybut thefirst barbwithout aparting line. The
parting line creates apotential leakpath that becomesmore
pronouncedas the toolingwears, increasing the likelihoodof
failure.
Twoother problems existwithmultiplebarbfittings. First, it is
impossible to fabricate tooling that creates aperfectly sharp
edgeoneachbarbof amoldedmulti-barbfitting–a feature
critical to theperformanceof the connection.
Second, multiplebarbfittingsdonot allow the tubing to relax
behind thefirst barb. Because the tubing “bridges” from
barb tobarb it isnot allowedanuninterrupted interfacewith
thefitting. This results in compromisedpressureand tensile
capacities. ValuePlastics
®
singlebarbdesignavoids these
shortcomings. Our expert toolingdesignassures the sharpest
edgepossibleallowing thebarb to “bite” into the tubing.
Then, the cylindrical surfacebehind thebarballows the tubing
to relaxagainst thefitting. The result is a connectionwith
excellent tensileandpressureperformance.

VALUEPLASTICS’ BARB:
TheMost SecureConnection
The
CLASSICSERIES
is characterizedbya longer barb that ex-
tends the sealing surfaceof thefitting. Tubing is expanded from
42% to69%above itsnominal ID.
The
200SERIES
offersoutstandingperformance characteristics
whenusedwithflexible tubing. Tubing is expandedby50%
above itsnominal ID, permittinghigh-pressure capabilities.
The
300SERIES
offersoutstandingperformance characteristics
whenusedwithflexible tubing. Tubing is expandedby35%
above itsnominal ID, permittinghigh-pressure capabilities in
the larger tube sizes.
The
400Series
provides easyassemblywhilemaintaining
excellent pressureand tensile capabilities. Originally created for
semi-rigid tubing, this series ispreferred for applicationswhere
tensile/pressureproperties arenot highly critical, orwhenease
of assembly isdesired. The400Series expands the tubing25%
above itsnominal ID.
The
500SERIES
profile is composedof blended radii, giving it
thedistinct look. Eachbarb isdesigned toaccommodatea range
of tube sizes and tube types. Consideration shouldbegiven to
flow restriction, pressure capability, and the force required for
assemblyof the tube.
The
600SERIES
barbs aredesigned for usewith silicone, C-Flex
®
andPVC tubing sizes commonlyused inbiopharmandother
applications. Tubing is expanded from 18% to34%above its
nominal ID tomaintaina lowprofileandeaseof assembly, and
the straight barb stem facilitatesuseof recommended cable tie
retainersor hose clamps.
The
700SERIES
barb isdesigned for usewithValuePlastics’ XQ
Seriesquick connect fittings. Thisunique singlebarb is available
in sizes tofit the 1/4” (6.4mm), 5/16” (7.9mm) and3/8” (9.5
mm) ID tubing sizes andmaterials commonlyused indisposable
and reusablemedical equipment. ReinforcedPVC, unreinforced

The
900SERIES
offersoutstandingperformance characteristics
whenusedwithflexible tubing. Tubing is expanded from8% to
17%above itsnominal ID. Thisbarbprovideshighflowefficiency
andexcellent tensile strength. Ahose clamp is recommended for
this series.
