Workingwithsolutionscontainingdecachlorobiphenyl
Decachlorobiphenyl haspoor solubility inmostorganic solvents. The
maximumconcentration that canbeprepared inacetone, hexane, or
isooctane is200μg/mL. Temperaturewill affect the solubilityaswell.
Storing solutionsat reduced temperatureswill causedecachlorobiphenyl
toprecipitate.
Products containingdecachlorobiphenylmustbe sonicated for a
minimumof 10minutesprior toopening theampul. Becauseeach
ultrasonicbathoperatesat adifferent energy level, 10minutes isa
guidelineonly. Longer sonication timewill not affectproductquality.
Theseprecautionsapply toworking solutionsprepared inyour
laboratoryaswell. Theamountof compound thatprecipitatesdepends
onconcentrationAND temperature. If you storeyour standardsat a
temperature lower than4°C (evendilute solutions), allowextra
sonication time.
