Theoryof Operation
Somesulfurcompoundsdonot trapwell,butcanbeenriched for lowerdetection limits. TheCryoCooler
PeltierTrapAccessory is basically a heated trap sandwiched between two peltier coolers. The trap is
filledwithTenax-GR (about 30%) andSilicaGel (about 70%) adsorbents. The vacuum pump draws
sample through theCryoCooler from ambient air, or from aTedlar bagor other sample container. The
peltier coolers can cool the trap down to -15
o
C to enrich the sample.
While theCryoCooler is enriching the sample, the
10-portgassamplingvalve is in theLOADposition.
At theconclusionof thesamplingperiod, theheater
heats the trap to150-200
o
Cand thevalve isactuated
to the INJECT position; this places the trap in the
carriergasstreamandsweeps theenrichedanalytes
onto the column.
