In the environmental industry, the chlorinatedpesticide analytical
methods often are themost challenging toperform.Analysts
strugglewith linearity, breakdown, and lengthy calibrations; as
well as columnbleed, column reactivity, andpoor separation.
Restekhas addressedmanyof these issueswith the development
of theRtx

-CLPesticides and theRtx

-CLPesticides2 capillary
columns.These columnsweredesigned specifically for the
separationof chlorinatedpesticides, tobe used inparallel for
simultaneousquantitationandconfirmationbygas chromatogra-
phy/electron capturedetection (GC/ECD).Wehave reported the
performance and separation for these columns in several articles,
butmany laboratories are nowdealingwith the latest versionof
the chlorinatedpesticidesmethod—SW-846, 8081A.This
method adds several new target analytes to the20 common
single-component pesticides contained in earlier versions.

-CLPesticides2 achievebaseline
separationof the 20 chlorinatedpesticides listed inUSEnviron-
mental ProtectionAgency (EPA)Method8081 (Figure1). They
alsohave ahighmaximumoperating temperature, excellent
inertness, lowbleed, andoperate under the same flow and
temperature conditions. This facilitates installing them as a
columnpair into a single injectionport, therebyminimizing
maintenance concernswith the injectionports.
Because theRtx

weredesignedwith selectivity for neutral, halogenated com-
pounds, they are easily adapted for the analysis of the extended
list of pesticides inMethod8081A. Figure 1 also shows the
separationof thenine additional single-component compounds
listed inMethod8081A.Using a guard column and splitting the
