System Overview
TheMud-LoggingGCsystem isdesigned toprovideacontinuousreadingof totalhydrocarbons inagas
stream,whileperiodicallyperformingachromatographicseparationofthesampletodeterminethecomposition
ofthesamplegasstream. Thisisaccomplishedusinga10portGasSamplingValvewitha25µLSampleLoop
ina thermostattedValveOven ,a1m(3’)HayesepDpackedcolumn ina temperatureprogrammableColumn
Oven,aCCDdetector,anFIDdetectorandabuilt-inAirCompressor. ThisGCcanbemodifiedtoincorporate
asecondFID insteadof theCCDfor totalhydrocarbonmonitoring. ThemodelshownbelowhasCCDand
FIDdetectors.

whiletheCCDprovidescontiuous, totalhydrocarbonmonitoring. Detectionlimitsforthissystemare0.1%to
100%for thecontinuous totalhydrocarbonmonitor,and0.005% to100%forspeciatedhydrocarbonsusing
theFID. TheAirCompressorsuppliescombustionair for theFID,and theairmake-up for theCCD. The
built-inPeakSimpledatasystemdisplaysboththecontinuoustotalhydrocarbonreading,usingtheDataLogger
mode,and theseparatedpeaks. When thesystemreceivesout-of-rangereadings,analarmfunctionmayalert
theuser.
