Theory of Operation
10-PortGasSamplingValvePlumbingConnections
Thevalve, sample loop, andcolumncombination isplumbed inaspecificway toallow theMG#1 to
separatehydrogen,oxygen,nitrogen,methane,ethane,propanes,butanes,pentanes,carbonmonoxide,and
carbondioxidewithasingleinjection.
10-PortGasSamplingValve in theLOADPosition
Aone-millilitersample loop is
connected to the 10-port gas
samplingvalve. When thevalve
is in theLOADposition, sample
maybeflowed through this loop
untilthemomentinjectionoccurs
(when thevalve switches to the
INJECTposition).
10-PortGasSamplingValve in the INJECTPosition
The column sequence is reversedwhile the flowdirection remains the same.
At the beginning of the
chromatographicrun, thevalveis
actuated to theINJECTposition,
depositing the sample loop
contentsintothecarriergasstream
anddirectingittothetwoanalytical
columns,whichareconnected in
series through the10-portvalve.
