-50XRHydrogenGeneratorconsistsofageneratorcellmountedonametalchassis. The
generator cell isattached to thechassiswith two screws for easydisassembly. On themetal chassis isa
solenoidvalve,apressuregauge,an interiorpressureswitch,adessicantbottle,anda togglevalveshut-offfor
isolating thegeneratorcell. TheNafion tube thatconnects thecellwith thedessicantbottleremovesmostof
thewatervapor from theH
2
gas; the rest is removedby thedessicantbefore reaching theGCcolumn. The
dessicantbottlecontainsIndicatingMolesievedessicantbeadswhich turnfromblue tograywhen theyabsorb
water.Water issupplied to thegeneratorcellby theperistalticpumpfrom theprovidedreservoirbottle. If the
water level in thecellgets toohigh, thefloatswitchopensup thesolenoid todrain theexcesswaterback into
the reservoirbottle. TheH

-50XRcansupplyenoughgas foradetectoror two, plus theGCcarriergas.
Duringoperation, there isabout40mLofhydrogengasstored in thedessicant,which isenough tooperatea
split injectorforshortperiods, inaddition to thedetector(s)andcarrier. The togglevalveshut-offfacilitates
checking for leaksandallows theH
2
-50XR to reachoperatingpressuremorequickly,while the interior
pressureswitchmaintains theoperatingpressure. Asasafetymeasure,apressurereleasevalveprotects the
generatorcell frompressureoverload. Theexternalpowersupplywith itsown transformerenables theH
2
-
50XR tooperateonvariousvoltagesaround theworld. TheH
2
-50XRproduces50mL/minat30psiusing
distilledwaterfrom thegrocerystore,andcanrununattendedforup to30days.
