Thegeneratorcellisattachedtothechassiswithtwoscrewsforeasydisassembly—justunscrewthem,unplug
thepowercord,and theentirecellcomesoff. On themetalchassis isapressuregauge,an interiorpressure
switch, adessicantbottle, anda togglevalveshut-off for isolating thegeneratorcell. Thedessicantbottle
containsIndicatingMolesievedessicantbeadswhich turnfromblue tograywhen theyabsorbwater. Water
vapor that isreleasedfrom thegeneratorcellwith thehydrogen isremovedby thedessicantbeforereaching
theGCcolumn, thusdrying thehydrogengas. TheH

-50cansupplyenoughgasforadetectoror twoaswell
as theGCcarriergas. Duringoperation, there isabout40mLofhydrogengasstored in thedessicant,which
isenough tooperateasplit injector forshortperiods, inaddition to thedetector(s)andcarrier. The toggle
valveshut-offfacilitatescheckingfor leaksandallows theH
2
-50 toreachoperatingpressuremorequickly,
while the interiorpressureswitchmaintains theoperatingpressure. Asasafetymeasure,apressurerelease
valveprotectsthegeneratorcellfrompressureoverload. Anexternalpowersupply/transformerthatisprovided
enables theH
2
-50 tooperateonvariousvoltagesaround theworld. Youmayuseanyapprovedpowersupply
rated100-240VACwith12VDC, 7ampoutput. Conveniently, theH
2
-50produces 50mL/min at 35psi
(241316Pa,2.4bar)usingdistilledwaterfrom thegrocerystore.
