Heated Static Headspace Injector
Overview
TheHeatedStaticHeadspaceInjectorisusefulforanaylsisofthelightvolatilesthatcanbepartitionedinto
theheadspaceofavialcontainingeithera liquidorasolidmatrixsample. Itcanbeusedwithdirtyorcomplex
samples,suchasblood,urine,powders, foodsandflavors. TheSRIHeatedStaticHeadspaceInjector isbuilt
into the8610CGC,on the left sideof thechassis,eliminating theneed for transfer linesand reducingdead
volume. Thermostattedfromambient to90
o
C,aheaterbodyacceptsa40mLVOAvialcontaining10-20mL
ofsample. Coveredwithaprotectiveheatshield, theheaterbody isheatedandmechanicallyagitatedunder
controlof thePeakSimpledatasystem. Twoneedlespuncture thevial’sseptum topupon insertion into the
heaterbody. Purgegas topressurize thevial isdelivered throughoneneedle. Theotherneedlecarries the
headspacevapors to thesample loopon the10portgassamplingvalve, located in thevalveoven. On the
downstreamendoftheloopisasolenoidshut-offvalve,alsocontrolledthroughthedatasystem. Thissolenoid
shut-offvalveopenstofillthesampleloopwiththesampleheadspacefromthepressurizedvial. Asyringeport
allows theadditionof internalstandards,spikes,etc. into thevialwithoutexposing thesample toambientair.
