DesignedforcompliancewithEPAMethods5030and/or5035, thePurge&Trapsystemextractsvolatile
organiccompoundsfrom thesamplesolution in the test tubeorVOAvial. Usingadual trapdesignplumbed
witha10portgassamplingvalve, thePurge&Trapsystemenables theuseof twoseparateadsorbentswith
differentdesorption temperaturesforawiderangeof targetanalytes. Each trap isheated independently.
WhenthevalveisintheLOADposition, thesample-ladenpurgegasfromthetesttubeorVOAvialisdirected
through the two traps, thenout tovent, loading the trapswithsampleat theadsorption temperature. The traps
areheated to theirrespectivedesorption temperaturesshortlyafterpurging isstopped. When the trapsreach
desorptiontemperature,thevalveisactuatedtotheINJECTposition. Inthisposition,thecarriergasbackflushes
through the traps in thedirectionopposite to thesample-ladenpurgegas flowwithwhich the trapswere
loaded. Thecarriergasflowsweepsdesorbedanalytes into thecolumn, whileflowfrom thepurgevessel is
stoppedby thePeakSimpledatasystem.
TheversatileBTEX/EnvironmentalGCsystemscananalyzegas,water,andsoilsamples. Four typesof
injection techniquescanbeused:purgeand trap,direct liquid injection,TO-14 typegassampleconcentration,
andmanual headspace injection. ThePurge&Trapconcentratormaybeused forgas, liquid, and solid
samples. For liquidsamplesup to5µLandgassamplesup to1mL,direct injectionscanbemade through the
