Therearemanyflowelementsof
analytical instrumentswhich require
protection from foreignparticles,
suchasorifices thatmaybecome
pluggedor surfaces thatmayget
scratched. However,conventional
filteringdevicesmayhave too large
avolume tobeconsistentwithgood
systemperformance–particularly in
chromatographicapplications.
Valco’suniquepatented*filterdesign
results inextremely low internal
volumeand simplifiesfilter element
replacement. Filterbodiesare“coned”
foruniformflowandmaximumfilter
surfacearea. Thefiltersaremade
entirelyofmetal,so theycanbeused
at any instrumentation temperature.
While the standardmetal is316 series
stainless,filters canbemade from
alloys that canbeused invirtuallyany
application.
Weoffer achoiceof threedifferent
filteringelements. All stylesare
available inbulkheadconfigurations
formountingonapanel or instrument
wall. (Pleasenote that since fritsand
screenshave significantlydifferent
thicknesses, theycannotbeused
interchangeably in the samefilter
body.)
Pressed frits
,permanently installed
in thefilter,are recommendedwhere
contaminantsare theexception
andnot the rule. The fritsare2µ
stainless.
Removable frits
are thebest choice
formaximumfiltration,or if the
application requiresHastelloyCor
titanium. However, theyallowmore
mixingand tend toclogmore than
screens. A2µ frit is includedwith the
filter,but 0.5,2,and10µ replacement
fritsareavailable in threematerials.
Removablescreens
plug less
rapidlyandprovide lowerpressure
drop than frits. Since theyare
thinner, there is lessmixingand
dispersal thanmightoccurwitha frit,
but fritsprovidebetterfiltration. A
2µ screen is includedwith thefilter,
and2and10µ stainless replacement
screensmaybeordered.
