Internal reducers
Valco’spatented internal reducer (IZR) allows smaller tubing tobeused invalves
withfittingdetails for larger tubing, formingapositive leak-free sealwithzero
deadvolume. The small line fromyour systemgoesdirectly into the IZRand
the samplegoesdirectly into thevalve,without the shortpiecesof connecting
tubing required if a reducingunionwasused instead. (A reducing ferrulewould
alsowork,butmakesa seal of less integrity.) Once thefitting is installed,only
onewrench is required to removeand reinstall it.
A secondversionhasa2micron stainless steel fritpressed into theendof the
liner,addingfilteringcapability. However,we suggestusing theseonlyasafinal
orbackupfilter,witha standardfilter (
seepage52
) as theprimaryfilter. Because
IZRshaveamuch smaller surfacearea than the standardfilter, they tend toplug
toooften if used ina stand-alonecapacity.
