SPME Injection

withoutaholder,afterremoving thespring.Without theholder, theSPMEassembly is lighter,andeasier to
leave in the injectionportfordesorptionandconditioning.Whetheryouuseaholderornot,besure tohandle
thefragilefiberwithcare.

1. Load theSPMEfiberbyexposing it toasample inside
avial. Thelengthofexposuretimedependsuponthesample
and thefibercoating.
2. Pullthefiberbackintothebarrel.Injectintoahotinjector
by inserting thesyringe,pushing theplunger toexpose the
fiber in themegaborecolumn,and letting it remain there
longenoughtoreleasealltheanalytes.Pulltheplungerback
inso thefiberdoesn’tbreak,andwithdraw thesyringe.
SPME injectionsmaybemadewith the followingSRI syringe injectors: split/splitless,PTV, andheated
vaporization.
4. SRIrecommends thatyoudoSPME injectiondirectlyontoamegabore(0.53mm)column, likeanyother
syringe injection. Ifyouwant touseanarrowborecolumn,SRIcanprovideyouwithasimpleadaptor (see
nextpage).
