Transfer a small amount of HgO
powder intoadish.

Roll abit of thequartzwool intoa
cigar shapedplugand coat it with the
HgOpowder. Insert theplug into the
blank reaction tube. Optionally insert
another plugof un-coatedquartzwool
after.

Insert thepacked reaction tube
into thedetector inlet. Set the reaction
tube temperature to260C. RGD cell
temperature to180C. Note the trans-
mittance readingon thedetector before
heating the tube. When the tube is first
heated somemercury vapormay be
released lowering the transmittance.
Condition the systemuntil theback-
grounddrops toauseable level.
