Getting Started
In this section, wewill cover the
basicinformationneededtoset up
proper communicationwith your G.C. or
Data System hardware.
TheWindows version of PeakSimple
requires the use of the seriai port
interface that is built intomost 8610-C
andModel 310 gas chromatographs.
Thisdataacquisitionandinterface unit
permits you to acquire up to four
separate channels of data
simultaneouslywithout the need for
additional hardware or acquisition
boards.
The earlier IBMPC-compatible ISAexpansion bus data acquisition cards (AD100 and
AD110) used by PeakSimple II and PeakSimple III data systems are
not supported
by
PeakSimple for Windows. However, all chromatogramsacquired using DOS-based
PeakSimple II and PeakSimple III continue to be compatiblewith this Windows version
andmay be imported as native fiies.
Identifying Your COMPort
Before attempting to establish communication between yourG.C. and the serial
data system interface, be sure to check that all the necessary electrical connections
have been made, including the connectionof any optional remote start cables.
Select an unused serial port on your PCand identify the COMport number
assigned to it. It is important that this port NOTSHAREAN INTERRUPTwith any other
device used in your computer. Typical PCs areequipped with two COM (or serial)
ports. COM1 is typically used by themouse or someother pointing device. COM2may
be open (unused) or shared with another device, such as a faxmodem, scanner or other
peripheral. Determinewhich COMport youwill use and remove any other device that
may be in contention with that specific COMport number. Refer to your PC's handware
manual for instructions on changingCOMport addresses and device drivers.
Most COMports are provided withDB-9
connectors (ninepinsconfigured intwo rows –
5 pins over 4 pins - within a D-shaped plug or
chassis connector). If your PChasa DB-25
serial port (25-pin connector), youwill require
a DB-25 to DB-9 adapter.
