Restek offers Photoionization Lamps from the “
Pioneers of PID,
Robert Gauthier
and Scientific Services Co. The quality of these lamps are assured through testing of
each lamp component duringmanufacturing, as well as testing of each assembled
lamp’s performance prior to being shipped. In fact, these lamps are so good that the
manufacturer supports their products with a “Guarantee of ThreeMonths of Useful
Life.”
Scientific Services Co. innovation continues with the introduction of theModel
108-BTEX lamp—the first new design since the introduction of theModel 108-
10.0/10.6 in 1979. The BTEX lamp produces on average 33%more output than the
workhorseModel 108-10.0/10.6.
CommonlyAskedQuestions
Will the newModel 108-BTEX fit as a replacement tomy oldModel 108-10.0/10.6?
Yes. The lamps are fully interchangeable. TheModel 108-BTEX has identical
dimensions as theModel 108-10.0/10.6.
What instruments canusePID lamps as general replacements?
For Tracor, OI, andBaseline instruments, a lampwith a 0.781" diameter basemust
be used, such asModel 108-10.0/10.6 andModel 108-BTEX. For HNU and SRI
detectors, a lampwith a 1.375" diameter basemust be used, such asModel 103C.
Other PID lamps are available that offer different ionization potentials.
Should I cleanmy PID lamp?
Yes, cleaning the lamp is necessary because the windowmay become contaminated
from stationary phase bleed and non-volatile residues. Cleaning the PIDwindow
enhances sensitivity by increasing the amount of ionization energy passing through
thewindow to the sample. PID lampwindowsmust be cleaned by polishingwith an
aluminum oxide slurry.
