INFORMATION
Tensilepull andburst testswereperformedbyan independent laboratoryunder controlled conditions toprovide comparativeperfor-
mancedata for thevariousbarb styles and sizesofferedbyValuePlastics. Graphnumbers 1 through8present thedata fromeachof
the tests for eachbarb sizeandeachbarb style connected toPVC tube.
Thevalues shownare themeansof a statistically significant samplequantityof each configuration. ValuePlasticsbarbedfittings spe-
cificallydesigned for usewith the tubing size indicatedwereused in these tests. Nooversizedbarbs, solvents, adhesives, or second-
ary fastenersof anykindwereused.
TensilePull Test:
Tensilepropertiesweremeasured todetermine the force required to remove thebarbedfitting from the tubing.
Tensile specimensweremountedaxially inaholdingfixtureand testedat a rateof 20 inchesperminute. Failuremodewas tubing
separating from thebarb.
HydrostaticBurstTest:
Hydrostaticburst testingwasperformed ingeneral accordancewithASTMD1599. Failuremodewas either
tubing separating from thebarb, the tubingbursting, or a combinationof the two.
